The Design Arguments For The Existence Of God - 1401 Words

The design arguments for the existence of God center on the principle that an intelligent designer, in this case God, has crafted our world so that each item has a purpose and significant meaning. Additionally, the world is a complex and sometimes enigmatic system of elements which work together to sustain life in a way that some argue is unlikely to have occurred by pure chance alone. Therefore, some philosophers credit a divine being as the source of this order and purpose in the universe. Furthermore, William Paley offers a version of the design argument in which he employs simple analogy between a watchmaker and God to demonstrate God’s presence. However, critics of this approach to proving God’s existence object to this simplistic analogy of the origin of natural components in the world and instead argue that an evolutionary perspective better explains the existence of such objects and therefore, for the sake of simplicity, a divine being does not need to remain in the equation. As a result, both the objections of flaws in the format of Paley’s argument and the needless inclusion of God as a designer cannot successfully be refuted by supporters of Paley. The Jewish Religion and Its Impact on Western Culture Free Essays

The long, rich history of Judaism gives the western world its shape today. The laws, traditions, culture, and values are directly attributable to Judaism. Judaism most prominently began with the founder of the Hebrews known as Abraham, who began to worship a figure called â€Å"Elohim. Sinai. The people of these tribes did not label themselves as Hebrews, and referred to G-d as the G-d of Abraham. The beginning of the story came about as G-d promised Abraham a son, and in the course of the events doubting that his old wife could give him a son, he had Ishmael with his maid, Hagar. Later, G-d’s prophecy would be fulfilled with the birth of Isaac, by his wife Sarah. Due to their belief system, the tribe proliferated the idea that Isaac and his descendants were chosen by G-d to carry forward Abraham’s holy ancestry. Isaac was the forefather of what was to become the 12 tribes of Israel. These twelve original tribes were later enslaved for several generations in Egypt. In Egypt, the Jews were persecuted and sold into slavery. It was not until Moses, a Hebrew, adopted by the pharaoh, realized his duty to release his people from their oppression. He eventually led the people from Egypt into the desert where they wandered for 40 years. Throughout the history of the world, the Jewish people have been persecuted and oppressed because of their religious beliefs and faith. Many groups of people have made Jews their scapegoat. Jews have suffered from years of intolerance because people have not understood what the religion really means. They do not understand where and why the religion began, nor the customs of its people. For one to understand the great hardships, triumphs, and history of the Jewish people, one must open-mindedly peruse a greater knowledge of the Jewish people and faith, while acknowledging their impact on society today. All Western law is based in part on Judaic Torah observance. A quick look at the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20) is a very good summary of most modern law that is followed today, along with the next three chapters in Exodus. Judaism believes in the equality of all people and if these commandments were not made and observed today, the equality of Western law would be replaced by position, power, or money. Another modern historical tradition adopted by from the Jews is how we eat. What is customary in Western society is a reflection of most of the Judaic dietary law. With the exception of the pig, Western society does not eat what is not contained in kosher law. Owls, mice, rats, and snakes are repugnant to most Westerners and it is a direct result of Jewish culture. A third example can be directly traced to Jewish culture in the way women are treated. Women’s rights were carefully maintained in this ancient culture, and today’s laws giving women equal rights under the law are a byproduct of Judaism. Unfortunately in today’s world, education is taken for granted, yet Judaism has long maintained education as the highest goal of man in his pursuit of Godliness. After the Babylonian Captivity, it was decreed that all the people should be educated, and this tradition has been passed to Western culture. Other defining characteristics of Western civilization which are influenced by Judaism are the recognition of the importance of each individual. Every person is believed to have worth and to deserve a life of dignity. In Jewish literature, this idea is first expressed in the first chapter of the first book of the Hebrew Bible, which says that people are created in the image of G-d. Because of this, every person is valuable. This idea was not common in the ancient world, where an individual’s social status often determined one’s importance and value. Also, the idea that trials must be fair is closely connected to belief in the rule of law. The Hebrew Bible and Talmud include numerous statements that emphasize the importance of fair trials and a wide variety of provisions to help ensure that trials are fair. Many of these provisions became key legal principles in the Western world. Jewish roots of legal principles have even been referenced by the U. S. Supreme Court. Lastly, giving charity is an important value in Western civilization that was not emphasized in most ancient cultures. In Judaism, on the other hand, supporting the needy is obligatory. Judaism has also played a significant role in the development of Western culture because of its unique relationship with Christianity, the dominant religious force in the West. Although the Christian church drew from other sources as well, its retention of the sacred Scriptures of the synagogue (the Old Testament) as an integral part of its Bible is crucial. Not only was the development of its ideas and doctrines deeply influenced, but it also received an ethical dynamism that constantly overcame an inclination to withdraw into world-denying isolation. It was, however, not only Judaism’s heritage but its persistence that touched Western civilization. The continuing existence of the Jews, even as pariah people, is both a challenge and a warning. Their liberation from the shackles of discrimination, segregation, and rejection at the beginning of the modern era was understood by many to be the touchstone of all human liberty. The two central events of 20th-century Jewish history were the Holocaust and the establishment of the State of Israel. The former was the great tragedy of the Jewish people, while the later was the light of a rebirth, which promise d political, cultural, and economic independence. The rest of the world has been forced to reconsider and reorient its relationship with Judaism and the Jewish people because of these two events. At the same time, the centers of Jewish life have moved almost exclusively to Israel and North America. Along with these developments, theological considerations and practical realities, such as interfaith marriage, have made Jewish religious culture a point of interest for many non-Jews. In the early 21st century, Jewish religious life continued to fragment along ideological lines, but that very fragmentation animated both moral imagination and ritual life. While ultra-Orthodox Judaism grew narrower, and some varieties of Liberal Judaism moved ritual practice even farther away from traditional observance, a vital center emerged, running from Reform Judaism to modern Orthodoxy. This center sought to understand Judaism within a broader context of interaction with other cultures while leaving the essentials of belief and practice unaffected. CHAPTER I The Problem and its Background INTRODUCTION A Library is more than a place, more than books, films and records. Basically a Library is a gathering of ideas or information put in order and shared. Different groups of people use Libraries like teachers and students, youngsters and elderly, policemen and plumbers and politicians. Each group, each person has a different Library needs. Because no one Library can handle all needs, there are different kinds of Libraries, and they share materials with each other. There are no two Libraries that are exactly alike. But some have more in common than others. Because the money to run a public Library comes from taxes, it is a free Library for the public, everyone who lives in a certain neighborhood, city, country, or province. Such a Library serves all ages and groups as an information center, as a reading, viewing and listening for pleasure Library. There were early types of public Libraries in ancient Greece and Rome. However, they did not lend materials freely as do the world’s public Libraries today. Throughout the school days, students and teachers in elementary and secondary school need school Libraries to work in. The modern school Library in many countries is a learning center designed for both group and independent study. Besides books, the Library may contain magazines, newspapers, maps, posters, charts, models, teaching machines, films and filmstrips and slides to look at, records and tapes to listen to, and the equipment to use these. There may be special study and listening areas, conference rooms, and even a recording or TV studio. Such a Library is called a material center or media center. A large secondary school Library may have separate resource center for science, social studies, and other subjects. An academic Library is found in a College or University. Like a school Library, this Library is a workshop for students and teachers, but it often has anywhere from 50,000 to millions of books and other materials covering many special subjects. That’s why Scholars from outside the College or University frequently use such Library for research. A University may include 50 or more Libraries in its many schools- a Far Eastern studies Library, a Fine Arts Library, An Engineering Library, and so on. There may be separate Libraries for undergraduates and for rare books and manuscripts. Because of the vast amount of materials they handle, some academic Libraries use computers to keep track of the collection. The medical Library of a Hospital is a special Library. So are the Libraries of a Law Office, a weather bureau, a labor union, a museum, an arboretum, or any encyclopedia publishing firm. A special Library is a part of a Hospital, Business, or other Organization, and it offers practical information to the workers or members. Such a Library is not generally open to the public. Usually it concentrates on a particular subject or subjects like Medicine, Law, Climate and Weather, Labor, and Art. A special Library may have few books, relying heavily instead on such materials as magazines, reports, and computer printouts. These enable the Library to keep up in fast-moving fields such as aerospace. National Libraries are the Super Libraries of the world, with upwards of 80 million books and other materials in the largest. Because a National Library serves the Government of a country, it’s a special Library. It’s also a research Library for Scholars. In addition, many national Libraries are public in that they are for the people of an entire country. Upon entering its 4th year of foundation, the Lyceum of the Philippines University Cavite Campus has a need for improvement of the campus facilities to continue giving a top class educational satisfaction that the students expect upon enrolling in this University. And one of the facilities that is most used and needed by the students is the University Library because it is the most resourceful place for them. The Library supports the needs of students for informational material such as books, periodicals, and other readable materials that can provide useful information for the students. And to support the growing population of this University, some improvements might be required for the University Library to make sure that it can satisfy all of the students and even the future students of this University. As of today, Lyceum of the Philippines University Cavite Campus is still in developmental stage of its Library services and facilities. We all know that our Library does not have enough space to support the facilities that is needed to accommodate all Lyceans. That is why we had decided to conduct a study to determine the satisfaction level of selected CITHM students on the Library services and facilities, and to help the Administration by giving useful information that can be used to improve the University Library. Together with the CITHM department, we would like to help the University Library to gain higher satisfaction rate from students who is using the Library facilities and services. Our goal is to assess the level of satisfaction of selected students from the CITHM department and to pin point some of the possible things that we can add to make sure that the University Library is satisfying the students of this University. On one hand, is assesses the students satisfaction over the quality of the University Library’s services and facilities. And on the other hand, there is also a need to check on some specific aspects that may be used as points of improvement for the Library services and facilities. In the process, this will help the University Library to enhance its services and facilities to become more flexible and dynamic that will suit the specific needs of different students while maintaining the rules and regulations of the University Library. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM The purpose of this study is to determine the Level of Satisfaction of Selected CITHM Students on the Library Services and Facilities. The following are some guide questions that can help us identify the possible improvements needed by the LPU-Cavite Library: †¢What is the Demographic Profile of the respondents in terms of: †¢Age †¢Gender †¢Course †¢What are the different facilities offered at the Library of LPU Cavite? †¢Do all students feel the comfort in staying inside the school Library for reading and searching materials? †¢Does the school Library provide easy access to different reading materials available whether books or on-line information? Do the school Library provides the students enough research materials that they need? †¢Does the school Library distributes books according to the courses or subjects equally? OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY This study aims to identify the needs of students in using the school library. It focuses on the overall satisfaction that the University Library can provide to the students. The following are some specific objectives of the study: â⠂¬ ¢To find out if the LPU-Cavite Library has been satisfying the students by means of the facilities and services they offer. To identify possible improvements on the Library. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY This study seeks to help the University in improving the Library facilities and the services of LPU Cavite for the benefit of all the library users. It will be of most value to: †¢Professor – to provide them with enough teaching materials to aid instrument. †¢Alumni – to see the improvements of what they have researched about the LPU Cavite Library. †¢Future Researchers – to provide them other information and ideas in relation to their topic to be research. CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK Library Services Questionnaire/Survey and Facility Assessment for the students The diagram above shows how the study works. It shows where the information will come from by conducting survey, assessment by means of questionnaires to the target students about the Library services and Facility. The Data gathered will be use to identify the improvements needed by the Library. SCOPE AND LIMITATION The main focus of this study is to determine the Level of Satisfaction of Selected CITHM students on the library services and facilities. We also focus on â€Å"HOW? † CITHM students would be satisfied and â€Å"WHAT? † could the library do for the satisfaction of the CITHM students. Our research study time frame starts from JULY 2011 to OCTOBER 2011 and research study would be focusing at the LPU Cavite campus, with the respondents of selected CITHM and our data sources would also come from CITHM students, since we gather information from them. The research study would not be covering the library rules and regulations and some other things that tackle the Library safety and security.

Peyton Place In 1956, a woman from middle class Manchester, New Hampshire wrote a book that shocked the nation. At 32 years old, Grace Metalious wrote the blockbuster novel Peyton Place. It transformed the publishing industry and made the author one of the most talked about people in the nation. Metalious wrote about incest, abortion, sex, rape, adultery, repression, lust, and the secrets of small town New England, things that were never discussed before in conservative America. She interpreted incest, wife beating, and poverty as social failures instead of individual flops. When Metalious published Peyton Place, the country was in the grasp of a new wave of sexual panic. The book turned the "private" into the "political." The avant-garde disturbed the country and critics called the book "wicked," "sordid," and "cheap." Canada declared it indecent and made the importation of the book illegal. Parts of Rhode Island, Indiana, and Nebraska followed suit arguing that the book would corrupt young mind s. Wealthy communities banished Peyton Place. To read Peyton Place was to read it in secret and were sometimes discussed only among the closest of friends. Everyone was reading it - college and high school students, college graduates, mothers, wives, and even husbands and fathers. In 1956, a sexual act such as sodomy, oral sex, and intercourse with another married person in most states was illegal. Also, abortion was illegal, and birth control was unreliable and in many cases, difficult to find. To many critics, Metalious' book was not scandalous because of its case in point, but because of the sexual pleasures that were received and given by the female characters. Peyton Place begins with Indian summer in 1939. It takes place in a very descriptive, postcardesque New England town. The main story focuses on three women characters and their underlying search for their identities as sexual women in small town America. Allison Mackenzie is the bastard daughter of Constance Mackenzie who had an affair with a married man. She illegally changed Allison's birth certificate and lied to the Peyton Place locals that her husband died. Connie didn't want any of the town folk to find out the truth that the father of her child was a married man because she would become the town gossip of ridicule. She kept this secret to herself, and only to herself until an argument between her and Allison occurred when Connie thought Allison was having sex with one of her friends, and so she lashed out the truth to Allison. As a child, Allison was always teased about being childish, and not interested in boys, and always into books. But as she grew up she was full of confli cting sexual emotions, and after graduating high school, she left Peyton Place to pursue a writing career in New York. Connie Mackenzie, to her neighbors, was a beautiful, young, widow that owned her own thrift store. Many eligible bachelors Everyone had a desire for her and wished to have her, until Thomas Makris, a teacher from New York City arrives into town to take the job of headmaster at the Peyton Place grade school. Thomas pursues Connie and terrified that he knows her secret, she avoids him. He shows up at her house one night and persuades her to a date, which leads to him raping her. They stay together and end up in marriage. As the third main female character, Selena Cross is probably the most significant. She was the same age as Allison. She lived in a shack with her little brother Joey, deranged mother and alcoholic stepfather, Lucas Cross. She lived an abusive life with Lucas drinking, beating her mother, beating her, and sexually violating her. He gets Selena pregnant and she secretly gets an illegal abortion from the town doctor, who forces Lucas to disappear from Peyton Place and never come back or everyone will know what he did to his daughter. Selena works at Connie's store and becomes manager when her mother, stricken with cancer, commits suicide. In 1944, during a snowstorm, Lucas Cross, now part of the U.S. Navy, shows up at Selena's house drunk and coming on to her. One thing leads to another and she kills him, and her and

Black Face essays In Response to the movie I have a lot of matters to comment on. I was fortunate enough to be semi-educated on the topic of "Black Face" and racist advertising prior to the video. Therefore, the movie served as a thorough recap of the information that I discovered previously. One thing I cannot begin to understand about this time period is the number of African Americans who participated in these movies that degraded our people. I also have a problem with the continuation of the stereotypes of old as well as the upholding of the passive attitude towards these demeaning representations of our people. This film brought me to the realization that it is up to our generation to reverse all of this "nonsense" and instill in our seeds the true meaning and essence of what it is to be Black and Proud. I was shocked to find out by way of earlier research, as well as by recent observation of the film, about the number of African Americans who participated in the "Black Face Era" along with whites. In his only known essay, "The Comic Side of Trouble," Bert Williams wrote, "I have never been able to discover anything disgraceful in being a colored man. But I have often found it inconvenientin America." David Krasner's book Resistance, Parody, and Double Consciousness in African-American Theatre, 1895-1910, explores how Blacks who wrote and performed in musicals at the turn of the century dealt with the inconvenience in their productions through subtle and not-so-subtle lines and routines. Seeing the movie really disturbed me in that by our participating in Nineteenth-Century Blackface Minstrelsy we did nothing but gave truth to the stereotypes that whites handed to us. Every organism born with some rights, it is the society or the system which understands and allocates these norms to that particular individual and also does the grading among the living beings. This paper is mainly concern with the animal’s rights, their legal position in our society and also their autonomy. Human being is by nature a selfish being and if we look through the window of history, man has been using animals for their benefits without caring about their rights and freedom. From very beginning human and animals are in close interactions with each other, human use them as food, make them to do their work, use them for decoration purpose, use them as watch man, use their lather and also use them for experimentation. In spite of hundreds of benefits which animals provide to human, human do no or less care about their rights and legal position and is busy in harming animals and violating legal norms which should be given to these animals. Non-human animals should be given rights and protection in the society and there should be a governing body which should govern and implements these rights and norms. It is a fact that animals are an important component of a country economy, the use of animals is a bit compulsory nowadays. Many industries such as lather industries, diary industries, pharmaceutical industries, food industries, and textile industries all rest on animals and their products. I have no objection regarding the use of animals but this use should be justified and limited and if the use is experimentation then the 3Rs Principlesshould be followed, which are Reduction, Refinement and Replacement. By reduction he means that reduce the number of animals used, if you are using 100, use 50. Similarly by refinement he means that refine your method so that less or no harm is given, by replacement he means that replace higher a nimals by lower animals or animals by computer models. There is a difference between use and cruelty, use and harm, it is clear that their use cannot be avoided but what can be done is to follow certain rules and guidelines regarding their use. These rules should be provided by an ethical committee and implemented by government. This paper will give you an idea about the thinking of various philosophers and great persons regarding animal rights from the very beginning till date. Ancient world and Animals: Human dominancy has been reported in â€Å"Genesis† which quotes that Adam was told to be dominated over fishes, creatures of winds and all creeping creatures, keeping this in mind man had violated animal rights for centuries and centuries. But in fact the quote does not mean that human should be cruel to animals; it only represents supremacy of humans over other creatures. As a teaching assistant I am part of the wider team of teaching staff in a school. Everyone has different roles and responsibilities and this can sometimes lead to conflicts. On one occasion I was working with an EMA class doing role plays in a hall. It was the last lesson of the day and we were using the interactive white board. The after school film club was due to use the room straight after us and the coordinator was very annoyed that she was unable to come in and set up ahead of her class. She insisted that the EMA class use another space. While I could understand her frustration at being delayed I could also see the benefits to the EMA class of using the hall. It provided the children with opportunities to do exercises that couldn’t be done in standard classroom. I could also tell that they really enjoyed working in the space. The discussion between the teachers became slightly heated and I could see that there was tension. In order to resolve the conflict I suggested we carry out the activities that require the white board early so that the coordinator could come in towards the end of our lesson and set up the film. This solution was accepted by all. I felt I dealt with the situation constructively. Seek advice and support from relevant people when needed. As a teaching assistant I always seek advice on issues I am unsure of. If had a difference of opinion with another member of staff I would ask the teacher I worked with or different member of staff for advice. If was having difficulty with any of my responsibilities I would ask another member of staff to help and support me to ensure I was doing things correctly.

Ways to Teach Preschoolers Without Curriculum â€Å"What it the best curriculum for my preschooler?† It is a  question often asked by eager homeschooling parents. The preschool years, usually considered ages two to five, are such an exciting time. Young children, full of curiosity, are ready to begin learning and exploring the world around them. They are full of questions and everything is new and exciting. Because preschoolers are like sponges, soaking in amazing amounts of information, its understandable that parents want to capitalize on that. However, formal curriculum can be stifling to a young child. Preschool children learn best through play, interaction with the people around them, imitation, and hands-on experiences. That said, there is nothing wrong with investing in some quality educational resources for preschoolers and spending some time on formal learning and seat work with your two- to five-year-old. However, ideally, formal work should be kept to 15-20 minutes at a time and limited to an hour or so daily. Limiting the time you spend formally teaching your  preschooler doesn’t mean that learning isn’t taking place the rest of the day. There are many ways to teach young children without curriculum, and most of them you are probably already doing. Dont overlook the educational value of these everyday interactions with your child. 1. Ask Questions Make it a point to regularly engage your preschooler. Young children are no strangers to asking questions, but be sure you’re asking some of your own. Ask your preschooler about his play activity.  Ask him  to describe his drawing or creation. When you’re reading books or watching TV with your preschooler, ask her questions such as: Why do you think the character did that?How do you think that made the character feel?What would you have done in that situation?How would that make you feel?What do you think will happen next? Make sure youre asking the questions as part of an overall conversation with your child. Dont make her feel like youre quizzing her.   2. Don’t â€Å"Dumb Down† Conversations Don’t use baby talk with your preschooler or modify your vocabulary. I’ll never forget the time my two-year-old stated that it was â€Å"ridiculous† that a certain attraction was closed at the children’s museum. Children are fantastic contextual learners when it comes to vocabulary, so don’t purposely choose simpler words when you would normally use a more complex one. You can always ask your child to be sure she understands and explain if she doesn’t. Practice naming objects that you encounter as you go about your daily routine, and call them by their  actual names. For example, â€Å"This white flower is a daisy and that yellow one is a sunflower† instead of just calling them flowers. â€Å"Did you see that German Shepherd? Hes much bigger than the poodle, isnt he?† â€Å"Look at that large oak tree. That small one next to it is a dogwood.† 3. Read Every Day One of the best sit-down  ways for young children to learn is reading books together. Spend time reading with your preschoolers every day- even that book you’ve read so many times you don’t even have to look at the words anymore. Preschoolers also learn through repetition, so even though you’re tired of the book, reading it- again- provides another learning opportunity for them. Make sure that you take time to slow down and enjoy the illustrations as well. Talk about the objects in the pictures or how the characters facial expressions show how theyre feeling. Take advantage of opportunities like story time at the library. Listen to audio books together at home or as you run errands in the car. Some of the benefits of listening to a parent read aloud (or listening to audio books) include: Improved vocabularyIncreased attention spanImproved  creativity and imaginationImproved  thinking skillsEncouragement of language and speech development Use the books you read as a springboard for extension activities. Are you reading Blueberries for Sal? Go blueberry picking or bake blueberry cobbler together. Are you reading The Story of Ferdinand? Look up Spain on a map. Practice counting to ten or saying hello in Spanish. The Big Red Barn? Visit a farm or petting zoo. If You Give a Mouse a Cookie? Bake cookies together or dress up and take pictures. Picture Book Activities by Trish Kuffner is an excellent resource for activities designed for preschoolers and based on popular children’s books. Don’t feel that you have to limit your child to picture books.Young children often enjoy more complex stories. I had a friend who couldn’t wait to share her love of Chronicles of Narnia  with her children. She read the entire series to them when they were preschool and early elementary age. You may want to consider classics  such as Peter Pan or Winnie the  Pooh.  The Classics Starts series, designed for readers ages 7-9, is also an excellent option for introducing young children- even preschoolers- to classic literature. 4. Play with Your Preschoolers Fred Rogers said, â€Å"Play is really the work of childhood.† Play is how children assimilate information about the world around them.  One simple way for preschoolers to learn without curriculum is to provide a learning-rich environment. Create an atmosphere that invites creative free play and exploration. Young children love to play dress up and learn through imitation and pretend play. Have fun playing store or restaurant with your child. Some simple skill-building activities to enjoy with your preschooler include: Working puzzlesBuilding with blogsDropping clothes pins into clean milk jugsColoring and paintingSculpting with modeling clayPlaying with lacing cardsStringing beads or cerealCutting pictures out of magazines and pasting them on construction paper to make a collageCutting plastic straws 5. Explore Together Spend some time actively noticing your surroundings with your preschooler. Go on nature walks- even if it’s just around your yard or neighborhood. Point out the things you see and talk about them â€Å"Look at the butterfly. Do you remember the moth we saw last night? Do you know that you can tell moths and butterflies apart by their antennae and the way they hold their wings? What are antennae? They are those long, thin pieces (or appendages if you want to use concrete vocabulary) you see on the butterfly’s head. They’re used to help the butterfly smell and keep his balance.† Begin laying the simple foundations for math concepts such as big and little; large and small; and more or less. Talk about spatial relations such as near and far and in front of or behind. Talk about shapes, patterns, and colors. Ask your child to look for objects that are round or those that are blue. Categorize objects. For example, you can name various types of insects that you see- ants, beetles, flies, and bees  Ã¢â‚¬â€œ but also put them in the category â€Å"insects† and talk about what makes them each an insect. What do they have in common?  What makes chickens, ducks, cardinals, and blue jays all birds? 6. Look for the Educational Moments in Your Everyday Activities The activities that you do as you go through your day may be routine to you but fascinating to a young child. Don’t miss those teachable moments. Let your preschooler help you measure ingredients as you bake. Explain how he can stay safe in the kitchen. Don’t climb on cabinets. Don’t touch knives without asking. Don’t touch the stove. Talk about why you put stamps on envelopes. (No, they’re not pretty stickers with which to decorate!)  Talk about ways of measuring time. â€Å"Yesterday we went to Grandma’s house. Today we’re going to stay home. Tomorrow, we’ll go to the library.† Let him weigh the produce at the grocery stores. Ask him to predict which he thinks will weigh more or less- the orange or the grapefruit. Identify the yellow bananas, the red tomatoes, and the green cucumbers. Encourage him to count the oranges as you place them in your shopping cart. Preschoolers are learning all the time, often with little purposeful input from the adults around them. If you want to purchase preschool curriculum, thats fine, but dont feel as though you must do so  in order for your preschooler to learn. Instead, be intentional in your interactions with your child because there are countless ways for preschoolers to learn without a curriculum.
