Why I Left for the City - 1143 Words

Dearest family, As you are reading this I will be living in New York City. I have always talked about leaving Dayton, so I guess you knew this day and this letter were coming. I have always dreamt and talked about moving to a city where there are more adventures waiting for me. New York City is perfect! You could never believe how different it is up here! Every day I see someone from a foreign county speaking some new-to-me language. I sometimes feel like I have moved to a foreign country. The buildings that are here in the city are so different also! There are buildings called skyscrapers that are so tall they seem to touch the heavens. They have started work on a new skyscraper they say will put the rest to shame. They are going to call it the Empire State Building. When the building is finished it going to have well over 100 stories and be over 1,000 feet high. It will be the tallest building in the world, and it’s going to be in my backyard. I can’t believe it! I don’t think I will be able to visit the top, since I am so scared of heights. I recently got a job working in a Macy’s department store where I work as a shop girl selling clothes to the customers. You should see the likes of some of the people that come in there. Women who call themselves â€Å"flappers† have their hair cut so short and wear some of the most scandalous dresses. Even some of the most well respected women have taken to wearing makeup.
